start of a new...

Painting! Here is the sketchy poo. It was originally for my Illustration for Publishing class, but that idea got shot down. So now...I want to use it for an oil painting. If you can't tell already..it's a self portrait.

The Kids are Alright Tour 2009

Hey guys! This is the show that I am going to be in today in Philadelphia! Go check it out if your in Philly!

“The Kids are Alright” is a five city showcase tour of 25 young artists that have either recently graduated or are still attending art school. The Series was designed to give these artists an opportunity to develop their talents while receiving direction and feedback from several different galleries and a curator.

The Tour is curated by Beau Basse, owner of LeBasse Projects in Los Angeles. His goal in producing the Tour is to create a platform for young artists to gain experience working with galleries in order to properly prepare them for future success as professional artists.

Here is a link to the blog so you can keep up with the other shows!

invisibles

This was a series I did a few terms ago about the people that we usually overlook in society. The ones that no one really pays any attention to. The way I painted them was to bring them to full attention. They are all done in ink and watercolor.

mi familia

This is a series that I started based on my family. It was paintings of photographs that I saw in my family albums..basically it was about the falling out I had with my sister and how it made me feel. This is not the whole series just a small chunk.

mo sketchbook stuff

I'm just figuring out how to use this blog thing. Apparently I could have posted all of these in one window....and I just realized that the scans are pretty janky. Oh well!

how i am

So I have decided to create a blog...since I can't afford a website here it goes! This blog is titled after an excerpt from a book I have been reading and something that I believe deeply in. The way I have always lead my life and the way I am. So much so that I decided to tattoo it on my foot. It's from a book by Krishnamurti titled Think On These Things...
(this is gonna be a long post, bear with me)

Life is really very beautiful, it is not this ugly thing that we have made of it; and you can appreciate its richness, its depth, its extraordinary loveliness only when you revolt against everything-against organized religion, against tradition, against the present rotten society- so that you as a human being find out for yourself what is true. Not to imitate but to discover-that is education, is it not? It is very easy to conform to what your society or your parents and teachers tell you. That is safe and easy way of existing; but that is not living, because in it there is fear, decay, death. To live is to find out for yourself what is true, and you can do this only when there is freedom, when there is continuous revolution inwardly, within yourself.

We must create an atmosphere of freedom so that you can live and find out for yourselves what is true, so that you become intelligent, so that you are able to face the world and understand it, not just conform to it, so that inwardly, deeply, psychologically you are in CONSTANT REVOLT; because it is those who are in constant revolt that discover what is true, not the man who conforms, who follow some tradition. It is only when you are constantly inquiring, constantly observing, constantly learning, that you find trush, God, or lovel and you cannot inquire, observe, learn, you cannot be deeply aware, if you are afraid.

Sorry this was so long, I just had to get it out there. Here's some work!
